Custom Data Request ID/Name: Duke_Energy_01_2025
Requestor Background & Purpose: Duke Energy, one of America’s largest energy holding companies, is headquartered in Charlotte, NC. Data will be uploaded into Duke Energy's EHS Viewer for protected species (threatened and endangered) and protected lands. This mapping program will be available to all of Duke Energy’s internal customers (i.e., employees from Duke Energy and its contractor, Theorem Geo). The goal of the EHS Viewer is to enhance and improve the corporate GIS system regarding sensitive resource and natural heritage information in association within the regulated service territories. The Licensed Dataset will be uploaded into the EHS Viewer giving employees from Duke Energy and Theorem Geo information that can be applied to upcoming projects and annual maintenance. The EHS Viewer includes color-coded flags and warnings where sensitive resources are located within Duke Energy’s distribution and transmission line rights-of-way (ROW). Notification requirements, best management practices (BMP), and special considerations (e.g., no mowing from April 1- November 15) are also entered into the system with specific resources (e.g., bat zones and associated BMPs). Transmission and Customer Delivery planning and scheduling will benefit from ensuring sensitive resource compliance and awareness on ROW access, as well as operations and maintenance (O&M) restrictions, and notification requirements. The EHS Viewer will provide a consistent message for communication in terms of process and practice and is supported by both federal and state agencies.
