Custom Data Request ID/Name: MNFI_DRT-908_202302

Requestor Background: Purpose of Request:

Network member Rebecca Rogers, GIS/IT Manager, with MNFI at Michigan State University Extension is requesting precise species element occurrence records for the Rusty-patched Bumble Bee in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. She is also requesting plant occurrences by HUC-8 in the Great Lakes region of the states previously listed and that data request is covered in a different project and project summary (Michigan Natural Features Inventory Plants - July 2023). MNFI's mission is to guide the conservation of Michigan’s biodiversity by providing the highest quality scientific expertise and information.

Geographic Scope for both requests:

US-IL, US-IN, US-MN, US-OH, US-WI

Scope of Request:

Precise spatial data and EO details for Rusty-patched Bumble Bee.

Mode and Date of Delivery:

The Licensed Data was provided in a password protected file geodatabase on September 12, 2023.

Purpose of Request:

MNFI is creating a habitat suitability model for Rusty-patched bumble bees in Michigan. All populations of the Rusty-patched bumble bee are currently historic, and MNFI is hoping to use data from IL, MN, OH and WI to help inform the model with more recently observed populations. MNFI will be conducting targeted survey across Michigan, Ohio and Indiana over the next 3 years. Results of the model and subsequent surveys will inform conservation and reintroduction efforts in coordination with USFWS.

MI is happy to share their final model with you if you would like to see it. They can’t find any extant populations in MI so this will help them try and target based on where they are or have been found in nearby states.  The final product will only be MI. No data from other heritage program will be included or shared in any way.
