Custom Data Request ID/Name: NWRS Tool Permissions

Organization/Individual Requesting Data: USFWS is requesting a refresh of the data that went into the NWRS tool.

Purpose:

The USFWS is requesting to use precise occurrence data and any associated models for taxa on the Taxa-permissions file  for the purpose of generating spatial overlays with National Wildlife Refuge land. The results of this analysis (not the precise EO input or models) will be presented in an online application for NWRS staff. Staff will be able to download the tabular data on the percent of occurrence records that occur on each National Wildlife Refuge for each species. Results from EOs and models will be distinguished, and model confidence will be clearly communicated. Occurrence data will be used to show NWRS staff the percent of occurrence records for each species that occur on National Wildlife Refuges.  Values will only be recalculated if there are EOs that are now irrelevant or if there are new EOs that have been added to the dataset since we put the tool together last year.

Scope of Data: G1/T1 or G2/T2, SGCN, ESA listed, within the conterminous US. Data will be delivered for species that have some overlap with a National Wildlife Refuge (including approved acquisition boundaries). A list of species was attached to the request. EO data and models of sufficient confidence will be used for overlap analysis. NWRS staff will see tabular data from overlap analyses. We will not deliver EOs or models to FWS as part of this project.

Geographic Scope:

Conterminous United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii)

General Taxonomic Scope:

Taxon list: G1/T1, G2/T2, ESA listed, and SGCN across all taxonomic groups

  • Elements that meet those criteria and have EOs = 11,472
  • Elements that meet those criteria and have a model = 2,581

NWRS Tool Output:

  • Number and percent of EOs per refuge
  • List of species per refuge

Mode of Delivery:  A tabular dataset will be provided to USFWS NWRS staff that use the online tool.  The due date of this project is April 2023.
