Custom Data Request ID/Name: UCBerkeley_IsraelSciDefult_01_2023

Requestor Background:

Israel Borokini from the University of California Berkeley (UCB) is working with NatureServe's chief botanist, Wes Knapp, on a plant species spatial phylogenetics analysis.

Scope of Request:

UCB is requesting EO data generalized to a 50x50 grid for all native seed plants in the United States and Canada. The analysis will be done internally by NatureServe, and then provided to Israel's team at UCB at a 50x50km (=965 sq mile) resolution. Thus, no precise EO data will be provided to UCB. Since the 50x50 grid is slightly larger than a 343 square mile hexagon this request is considered a public level data product that does not require permission, but we will apply any data exclusion rules outlined in your Data Provider Portal for public use (=343 square mile hexagon).

Geographic Scope:

Occurrence data and coordinates for all native seed plants in the United States and North America (including Canada and Mexico).

Mode and Date of Delivery:

Shapefile

February 1, 2023

Purpose of Request:

The 50x50 grid data will be combined with existing data in the BIEN database and herbarium databases. The combined dataset will be used for mapping the phylogenetic diversity, endemism, and turnover for the North American seed plants. Access to the data will be limited to Israel Borokini, Wes Knapp, and Brent Mishler (UCB). The analyses will be shared publicly as part of the scientific publication and the NS network programs will be credited for providing biodiversity plant data. We will shar the results of the analyses with the U.S. network programs at a U.S. Section call before the publication is finalized.
